Over winter break, my family and I ate lunch at The Fish & Chip Shop, a Doctor Who-themed restaurant and pub in Portland, Oregon.

The restaurant is in North Portland, and easily accessible from the MAX Yellow Line. They serve British food - their specialty being Fish and Chips, as the name suggests.
My dad ordered a scotch egg salad (we all tried a few bites of scotch egg) which he said was quite good. For an appetizer we had the battered beets - which were SUPER delicious.

The menu features traditional British entrees, like bangers & mash, shepard’s pie, etc. All three of us ordered fish and chips. The fish was good - crispy batter on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside, but the ‘chips’ weren’t anything special. We were too full to try any desserts, though there were many delicious-sounding options including sticky toffee cake, fried candy bars, and spotted dick pudding.
We also tried some British soda, which was basically just carbonated lemonade and carbonated apple juice, but good nonetheless.

The service was quite slow, but that just gave us more time appreciate the real reason I came - the snazzy Doctor Who decor. Along with several Who-themed menu items like Davros burgers and fish fingers and custard, the whole place is filled with Doctor Who memorabilia.

The walls are covered with Doctor Who posters and other british and/or sci-fi themed decorations:

and I had the chance to pose for some cheesy photos with some of their cardboard cutouts…

The bar portion of the restaurant is known as The TARDIS Room and they offer LOTS of fun Doctor Who themed alcoholic beverages. Being underage, I didn’t try any myself, but that would certainly be a big attraction for some people. Another attraction is the weekly  Doctor Who trivia nights, plus occasional sci-fi costume contests and screenings of new Who episodes.
Other nice Who-themed touches include:
bathrooms decorated to look like TARDISes, with the doors painted like police boxes and orange lighting on the inside
a TV screen in the main room running non-stop Doctor Who episodes
the occasional Doctor Who song or sound effect mixed in with the background music
a totally awesome, old-school Doctor Who pinball machine (pictured above).
All-in-all, the food was yummy, the service was good, but the main attraction was the Doctor Who theme. Still I’d love to return (perhaps with other Who fans) to try some of their other British food items and maybe participate in one of the who-themed nights. If any fellow who-fans live in the Portland area or happen to visit sometime, it’s worth your time to visit The Fish & Chips Shop.
